Meditation Makes your Workouts Effortless
Sun, Feb 5, 2017
It may sound a bit strange, but meditating while working out is the perfect combination to make your workouts more fun and seem effortless. Before addressing the effects of working out while meditating (or vice versa – lol), it is important to fully understand what meditation is.
Meditation is a discipline where the person strives to go beyond the “thinking” mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness. There are several methods of meditating, the most commonly known involve sitting in a quiet place and repeating a mantra or focusing on your breath but that is not the only way to calm the mind (meditate). Focusing on what you are doing without letting your mind wander is also an effective form of meditation called mindful meditation. Stop the ranting of your mind (sometimes called the monkey brain) and focus on one thing.
Benefits of meditating while working out:
- Better Performance
- More Endurance
- Less Injuries
A Mindful Workout means that you are totally concentrated on what you are doing and what you are experiencing from the air coming into your lungs to the smells around you, and the colors and textures. You get the idea look observe, smell and listen to your surroundings fully immersed in the moment and feeling each motion, each push/pull, step and incline.
Another way of meditating while working out is to pre-occupy your mind with a specific task. Personally, I like to count my breaths from 1-5, 1-10, 1-15, and 1-20 (repeat as often as needed). These tasks must be busy enough that you need to constantly think about them or lose the train of though but mindless enough that you do not stress over them (don’t try to figure out why your blog is not working!!!),
I hope these ideas help your workouts and make your life calmer.
